Why People Choose C-Mount Cameras

C-mount security cameras are a long-time favorites in this industry, but standard definition C-Mounts have fallen out of style. They became popular in banks from the 1970's to the 1990s and C-Mounts are often the "iconic" security camera. C-Mount cameras are big and obvious, and this size gave them, historically, the option to have higher resolutions than bullet or dome cameras. This larger size also had another advantage: C-Mount cameras can deter crime by making it obvious that you are recording. C-Mount cameras can sometimes be known as CS-Mount Security Cameras.

As technology has allowed cameras to get smaller and more powerful, the scenarios where someone would use a Standard Definition C-Mount camera have decreased. You no longer need the large size of a C-Mount to achieve the maximum resolution of a standard definition camera. Most banks and other institutions that used Standard Definition C-Mounts have switched to C-Mount cameras with HD recording.

Using a C-Mount Camera in an extreme environment

One of the most common uses of a C-Mount camera is in the extreme cold or extreme heat. C-Mount cameras can be fitted into a C-Mount Housing unit that will make them weatherproof and can include a heater or blower which will allow the camera to function in extreme weather. If you are thinking of installing a camera outdoors in the Arizona desert or in the Alaskan wilderness, a housing unit with a heater and blower will help maintain your camera's ability to operate.

C-Mount Lenses are Interchangeable and purchased separately

We only carry one C-Mount camera, since most of the customization comes from the lenses, which are interchangeable. This allows a single camera to meet whatever need you desire. Our lenses range from a typical 2.8 - 12 mm varifocal lens (from a 105° to 22° angle of view) to a super long-range 5 - 100 mm lens.
