Why People Choose PTZ Cameras

PTZ Cameras are mainly used by companies that employ a security guard. Although many PTZ's have presets that allows the move around to predetermined locations, they are best used when controlled by an operator. PTZ cameras are often only used where security concerns are the highest such as ports, airports, and government facilities. Large retailers also often use PTZ cameras to reduce theft and shrinkage.

Zooming with PTZ Cameras

PTZ cameras have optical zoom or digital zoom. Optical is far preferred (click here for a knowledge base article comparing the two). The first image is 2.8 mm (1x zoom), the second at 10x zoom, and the last is at 36x zoom. The flag is about 100 yards (300 feet) from the camera. Digital zoom is simply the magnification and cropping of a digital image. It usually results in pixelated and blurry images.
