Need At Least 1 Tera Byte To Archive Vast Amounts Video

32 channels of security camera recording at 30 frames per second, is a lot of data. In just one day you can go through a tera-byte of video. If your CCTV application calls for more than two to four weeks of video on hand to study footage, then you need a system with 3 to 4 tera-bytes of hard-drive space. The formula we use to help configure how much hard-drive space you need is based on the compression of the DVR system. Our PC based 32 channel DVRs have H.264 compression. This compression will record 6 gig-bytes of video per day at real-time recording. So you can multiply 32 by 6 GIG and you get 192 GIGS of video. So if you are looking to keep a few weeks of video internally you will need 2 tera-bytes (2000GIG). This is not a huge deal for us to build it. We have a variety of hard-drives we us to enable for this type of record protocol. The best thing about these custom hard-drive solutions is, you have the ability to control your video. You will have time to review all the data, after a ten day period, the system will just loop over the previous data. So make sure you do back it up to a DVD-RW disc before that happens.
