What Is A RS485 Connector?
RS485 is a connection that PTZ security cameras take to allow communication to occur between a security digital video recorder. See the security dvr has a baud
rate and protocol that it uses to send instructions to PTZ camera. The connection is necessary because there is no way for the instructions to get to the camera
that is consistent and stable. The connection is lead by twisted pair cable, also know as CAT5. CAT5 wire is the only way you can run the positive and negative signal
to and from the security dvr. CAT5 wire works great because of the polarity created by a twisted pair, instead of regular positive and negative 18x2 gauge wire can
do. However, most security dvrs are setup with RS232 serial port and this is sometimes a problem. So Chinese engineers, developed an adapter. We sell a few
different models of adapters that will integrate into any setup. If you still don't understand, then call us and speak to a technician today.
My Computer Or DVR Does Not Have A RS232 Port! What Do I Do?
About 10 years ago, many motherboards made stop coming with serial ports. Serial ports back in the day were used for input and output devices. Printers and
other third party devices used these port. However, many engineers smartened up and develop a faster and more user-friendly connection called USB. The problem
is that many devices, like our RS485 connections, still need this port in order to send the protocols it needs with consistency being the key. There is just no way
the signal can connect directly to a USB connection, so RS232 is still preferred. However, we sell a RS232 to USB adapter for those of you who have PC based security
dvrs or those of you looking to turn your personal computer into a dvr and you want the use of PTZ cameras, you will need this adapter to make this option a
reality. Also remember that this is a third party solution and there could be some glitches or at times inconsistent signal transmission. So in the end you will find
direct connections to be the best.
