RG59 Cable Is The CCTV Industry Standard
RG59 cable is the industry standard for transmitting video signal. The term RG59 is the type of gauge the cable is. By gauge we mean the thickness of the cable. See there are different gauges you can use. The goal is to measure the power of what you are trying to transmit and make sure you have the right gauge. Most security cameras can transmit signal well over a RG59 or RG6. RG6 is a thicker gauge cable. You can use these cable for surveillance cameras, you will just have to find and industry standard RG6 connector that adapts well with a female video port. So if you are looking for cable, take a look at RG59 video cable. It is the best for most CCTV applications and is shielded from most video interference.
CAT5 & Video Baluns Are Becoming A Video Transmitting Standard
You can also use CAT5 to transmit video signal too! In fact, there are many benefits to using CAT5 cable as your method of video transmission. Most people that get into designing CCTV systems area amateurs and this solution works well with anyone who does not look forward to fabricating RG59 cable. You can get terminated CAT5 cable now that makes for a Plug & Play installation! By terminated we mean the standard RJ45 ends are on the cable. Most people wonder how to you connect this kind of cable to a female BNC connector? Well the answer is a special kind of adapter. In just the last four years, video baluns have been the answer to transmitting video. One of the main advantages of CAT5 has over RG59 is the ability to transmit video up to 1500-5000 feet. The more simple the connector is the shorter the distance you can transmit video over. There are even video baluns that can transmit power, video, and data in one shot. It really is a simple plug and play setup for CCTV applications. There is no sacrifice in video quality either. The only draw back to using CAT5 cable is that you can run the cable across other electronic device, electrical components, U.V. lighting or any other devices that could cause video or signal interference. The cable is not very well shielded and you will have to keep that in mind when blue-printing your CCTV installation. Other than that, this is becoming end-users and installers first choice for video transmission in the industry!
