If you are a looking for a little more range than our DVC-L3.5-8.0 varifocal lens model then this is the next step up. It has a wider range starting from a 2.8mm and going all the way up to a 12mm setting. In between the range you can set to a 3mm, 3.5mm, 4mm, 5mm, 6mm, all the way up to a 12mm. There is a lot of play. At the very initial setting you can expect to see out to 25 feet. Your field of view will be very wide. As you adjust the lens to a higher setting to see farther the field of vision will shrink and the video will become more tunnel looking. You will not have much peripheral view. However this lens will let you adapt to new demands in your security. Most of the customers that buy this lens were just unsure of what range they needed and just did not want to risk having to re-order more fixed lenses to get the video they wanted. You can expect to use this type of lens with c-mount camera that will be installed indoors. We recommend using lens pared with an indoor use. You can use it outside, just make sure the range that you are trying secure fit the dimensions your camera can actually adapt to. Watching docks, back doors, entrance ways would be fine, but if you are looking to cover a vast area of your property or compound you will need to take a look at a varifocal lens with a much wider range, so can properly adapt to changes in your security setup.
