Building a DVR: How to Build a Custom PC Based DVR
Everyday we experience and engage into conversations with people from all over the world. One of the main highlights is the need for a custom security dvr to record the data, which our end-users demand. Some use our products for security, some use it only to gain information and others use it to streamline certain operations. However you CCTV application is, you can customize a dvr to and build one to fit your needs. We always stress that we build and support your security dvr, however, we understand the techs that want to do it themselves. The only thing you risk is if you break equipment or experience abnormal accidents, you have to replace what you break. We on the other hand absorb those kinds of risk and cost. Below we have some information about how and what you will need to build a custom dvr.
How To Build A Custom PC Based Security DVR

One of the major components to build a PC based dvr is to have the video capture card. There are several different types available on the market, however, know that we prefer to use H.264 or MPEG-4 compression PCI DVR cards. In fact, if you really want to do it right, you will use the GEOVISION H.264 video cards. The reason for this is due to the low bit rate and high quality resolution it displays. After that you will need to choose a good motherboard, that can support up to 4 PCI slots. We will not reveal what we use, we have a private trade for our inventory we back-stock, but what we will say is don't get a crappy motherboard or a motherboard with one or two PCI slots. The whole point on building a dvr is to leave it open to be expanded to more channels is needed. For most small video surveillance systems you only need a gig of memory, but if you are going to have 12 or cameras, make sure to have at least 2GIG of memory. Installing and setting the software and locking down the system is where most people have trouble.
How To Build A Custom Standalone Security DVR
If you are looking to build your own custom standalone dvr, just don't do it! All the standalone dvrs sold by many different vendors and security dealers are pre-made from manufactures. It requires hard machinery to create the welds, sodering and bnc welding. It is almost impossible for the average user to do this even with the right tools. We receive our units in bulk and we add hard-drives to units to applications that need longer record time. We do not build these units from scratch, rather we deal with you buy having a lot more inventory to sell and naturally we get a good price. So there are no parts we sell or support complex building like this. Frankly, it is just dangerous to build a standalone security dvr, unless you are a certified electrician or engineer and you know what you are doing. Also again, we do not sell integrated parts for standalone dvrs. You could find replacements, but there is no market for us to make room for unnecessary parts that will just collect dust. In the end it is just cheaper to buy the units we have for sale. Trust us! This is not a wise option, if you want to build a custom dvr, then go based on a PC based platform.
